In a clip posted earlier today by member of European Parliament and leader of the UK Independence Party Nigel Farage, the architecht of Brexit had his day in the sun before his fellow MEPs.
Writer Michael Brendan Dougherty tweeted that “Nigel Farage deserves to spike the football” and this is a pretty apt description of what happened.
Farage opened his address to boos and jeers with “Funny, isn’t it?… how things have changed” before being interrupted by a presiding officer, who lectured the body on its behavior towards Farage.
For 17 years, Farage has pushed for the United Kingdom to leave European Union. “You all laughed at me,” Farage reminded his colleagues. “Well, you’re not laughing now, are you?” While poking and joking about his victory, Farage asked his colleagues to “be grown up about” Brexit.
He suggested that Great Britain was still willing to trade and be “best friends” with the EU—but that drew audible boos.
