Obama: Dems need ‘some reflection’ after election

Democrats could benefit from “some reflection” following their devastating election defeat, President Obama said Monday, hours before he was slated to host a phone call with members of the Democratic National Committee.

“Look, when your team loses, everybody gets deflated and it’s hard and it’s challenging and so I think it’s a healthy thing for the Democratic party to go through some reflection,” Obama told reporters.

The president also said it is “important for me not to be big-footing” conversations about the direction Democrats should go to rebuild their party and best positions themselves for the forthcoming Trump administration.

Obama said Democrats should be open to new leaders and fresh thinking within their party.

House Democrats are expected to hold their internal leadership elections later this week. The DNC will choose a new leader to replace interim Chairwoman Donna Brazile in January.
