Deadly Lorton fire caused by unattended candles

Unattended candles caused the fire that killed a mother and two of her children and injured four other people at a Lorton townhouse last month, Fairfax County authorities said Tuesday.

The Sept. 22 blaze at 9639 Hagel Circle killed Elieen Cecilia Langham-Anderson, 24; Soloman Anderson, 5; and Alfonso Anderson, 3. They died from smoke inhalation and thermal burns.

Three other children and one adult suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the fire.
