Woman having ‘psychiatric episode’ pulls up to UN HQ gate, refuses to leave

A woman experiencing a “psychiatric episode” drove up to the gates of the United Nations Headquarters in New York City and refused to move, police said.

The 53-year-old woman drove up to the gates at around 9:45 a.m., the New York Post reported. Police surrounded her vehicle and attempted to coax her out of the driver’s side window. The woman eventually followed the New York City Police Department Emergency Services Unit’s instructions, exiting her vehicle and being put on a gurney.

“She was having a psychiatric episode,” a police source told the outlet.

She was taken to Bellevue Hospital for treatment. It is unknown whether she had any connection to the U.N., or why she refused to move her car.
