Several students who say they were choked by their first-grade teacher are expected to testify at her trial on assault charges.
Montgomery County prosecutors allege that 36-year-old Susan L. Burke choked the 6- and 7-year-old students during the 2010-2011 school year.
Burke’s trial began Monday in Montgomery County Circuit Court.
Some of the children and their parents are slated to testify Tuesday. Their words make up the bulk of the prosecution’s case.
Burke’s attorneys say the students’ statements are unclear and inconsistent.
Burke was teaching at Greencastle Elementary School in Silver Spring at the time; she no longer works for the Montgomery school district.
