To help boost COVID-19 vaccinations, Louisiana is extending the availability of one of its vaccine programs to incentivize the unvaccinated.
Bring Back Louisiana announced on Monday that it would extend the “Shot for $100” through Nov. 30. Any Louisiana resident who is not yet vaccinated can receive a $100 Visa cash card, including children who have parental consent.
“The deadline for folks to take their Shot for $100 has been extended through the month of November,” Gov. John Bel Edwards posted on Twitter. “Get your shot, get $100 and help get protected from COVID-19.”

Edwards and the Louisiana Department of Health first announced the program on Aug. 18. Intended for college students, the program awarded the first 75,000 college students $100 each if they got vaccinated at participating colleges and universities. The program was later expanded to all Louisiana residents in October.
Big news, Louisiana. The deadline for folks to take their Shot for $100 has been extended through the month of November. Get your shot, get $100 and help get protected from COVID-19.

Another Louisiana program implemented to encourage COVID-19 vaccinations was the “Shot At a Million” program, which awarded $100,000 a week from July 14 to Aug. 4 — nine $100,000 scholarships for children ages 12-17 and a grand prize of $1 million on Aug. 6.

A recent study published by the Journal of the American Medical Association found these types of giveaways ineffective in boosting vaccinations, however.
Approximately 2.46 million of the state’s 4.65 million residents have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccinations, and just over 2.19 million have been fully vaccinated, according to Louisiana’s Department of Health.
