GOP lawmaker: Trump will ‘probably win the thing outright’

Retiring Rep. Matt Salmon, R-Ariz., predicted Monday that Donald Trump would most likely win enough delegates to become the GOP nominee, and that all the talk of a contested convention would probably become moot.

“I think Trump is gonna probably win the thing outright with 1,237,” Salmon said on KFYI radio in Arizona. “It looks as though he’s going to win Indiana tomorrow night, I believe he’s gonna win California, his polling numbers there are very good.”

“So I think we’re all going to sit back after this is all over and think, what did we make so much ado about this contested primary process,” he said.

Salmon reiterated that he couldn’t wait to be done with his 10-year stint as a congressman.

“That place is a snakepit,” he said of Washington, D.C.

“I like Arizona a lot more than I like Washington, and I like my wife more than any of my colleagues, and I miss her, and I want to be back with her,” he added. “The lifestyle is terrible. Getting on a plane every week, going back and forth, being away from your family 80 percent of the time. You know, that part of it is not pleasant at all.”
