Girl shot in Maryland school shooting will be taken off life support

The mother of a 16-year-old girl who was shot by fellow student at a high school in Maryland this week announced Thursday night that she would be taking her daughter off of life support, CNN reported.

Other than the 17-year-old shooter Austin Wyatt Rollins, Jaelynn Willey will become the only victim to have passed away as a result of the school shooting when she is taken off of life support.

A 14-year-old male student was the only other victim injured, he was discharged from the hospital the day following the shooting after receiving treatment for a gunshot wound to the leg.

The shooter had a “prior relationship which recently ended” with Willey, according to police, who have said the shooting was not a random act of violence.

Rollins was shot, and later died from the injuries, by school resource officer Blaine Gaskill less than a minute after Rollins shot the two students.

“He responded exactly as we train our personnel to respond,” said St. Mary’s County Sheriff Tim Cameron.
