Kellyanne Conway on viral anti-bullying video: We need to ‘lead by example for children’

Kellyanne Conway, counselor to the president, said Monday the country needs to “lead by example for children” after a video of a middle school student from Tennessee discussing how he was bullied went viral over the weekend.

“Keaton Jones is a face and a voice for many,” Conway tweeted Monday about the middle school kid whose video was seen millions of times. “We need to lift each other up, and lead by example for children, who learn what they live. If your heart breaks watching and hearing this boy’s pain, think twice before causing or adding to another’s. Thank you, Keaton and Mom.”

Jones, a middle school student from Union County, Tenn., appeared in a video posted by his mother, Kimberly Jones, on Facebook talking about how he was bullied at school.

Other students made fun of his looks, said he has no friends, poured milk on him and threw bread at him, Jones said. His mother said she picked him up at school because he was scared to go to lunch.

“People that are different don’t need to be criticized about it,” Jones said in the video. “It’s not their fault. But if you are made fun of, don’t let it bother you. Stay strong, I guess. It’s hard. But it’ll probably get better one day.”

The video has been viewed more than 21 million times, according to Sports Illustrated, and has garnered the attention of celebrities, athletes, and musicians.

Donald Trump Jr., President Trump’s eldest son, also saw the video of Jones, and said he would host the young boy if he were to follow up on an offer from UFC President Dana White to visit UFC headquarters in Las Vegas.

“This boy is incredibly brave and the video really got to me. @danawhite, If he takes you up on your offer to see UFC Headquarters, I would be honored to host him and his family at our place if they need somewhere to stay,” Trump Jr. tweeted Sunday.
