Billionaire Peter Thiel to donate $1.25 million to boost Trump

Silicon Valley entrepreneur and billionaire Peter Thiel will donate $1.25 million to support Donald Trump presidential run, according to multiple reports late Saturday.

The PayPal co-founder’s money will be given to super PACs and directly to Trump’s campaign, the reports said, citing unnamed sources. The donation will mark the first time Thiel has given money towards Trump campaign.

The news was first reported by the New York Times.

Thiel has been a vocal supporter of Trump for some time. He spoke at the Republican National Convention in July, where he became the first openly gay person to speak at the event.

“When Donald Trump asks us to Make America Great Again, he’s not suggesting a return to the past,” Thiel said at the event in Cleveland. “He’s running to lead us back to that bright future.”

Thiel was also one of 150 academic types who signed a letter in October supporting Trump, which also included former secretary of education Bill Bennet Callista, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, economist Larry Kudlow, John Lott and Deroy Murdock.
