‘Source of anti-Americanism and Marxism’: Mark Levin calls for ‘defunding our colleges and universities’

Conservative radio host Mark Levin voiced renewed support for defunding U.S. universities and colleges.

“1. THE LEVIN DEFUND PLAN Over a month ago, I argued on radio and TV that we must begin defunding our colleges and universities; that is, BDS the source of anti-Americanism and Marxism,” Levin tweeted Friday. “It appears Charlie Kirk is beginning to target the private donors. Hat’s off to him!”

Levin continued: “2. But a broader effort is also required as our tax dollars subsidize these institutions and professors to the tune of hundreds of billions. The Republican state legislatures in particular must act.”

The Twitter thread concluded with a call for Republicans in Congress to defund universities if they are able to hold the Senate and White House in the November election and regain control of the House.

Calls for the federal government to decrease or eliminate federal funding have intensified on the Right, and liberal activists and politicians seek to defund police departments in the wake of George Floyd’s death on May 25.

“I have an alternative,” Peter Wood wrote in an article in Spectator USA with the headline “Defund colleges, not cops.”

“Now is the moment to defund the colleges. We should defund them because they are the root of the virulent anti-Americanism that feeds the riots, the looting and the learned helplessness that afflict the country,” he wrote. “And they have been feeding the protest culture for generations. The chief lesson taught by our nation’s colleges and universities is soft disdain for our country and its forms of self-government. And the soft disdain ripens to outright antipathy for about a quarter of the graduates.”

President Trump recently tweeted that he directed the Treasury Department to “reexamine their tax exempt status/and or funding” universities and school systems receive.
