White House communications director Kate Bedingfield on Wednesday said people should not take medical advice from Joe Rogan after the podcast host suggested that young people don’t need the vaccine if they are healthy.
Young, healthy people should not worry about getting vaccinated if they’re exercising and eating properly, Rogan said Friday on the Joe Rogan Experience. The former reality television personality has hosted the podcast since 2009.
“I guess my first question would be, ‘Did Joe Rogan become a medical doctor while we weren’t looking?’ I’m not sure that taking scientific and medical advice from Joe Rogan is perhaps the most productive way for people to get their information,” Bedingfield said on CNN when asked about Rogan’s comments.
Rogan’s comments might cause listeners to “question” whether they need to receive a vaccine, Bedingfield said, but she pointed to polls showing that more people are willing to get vaccinated.

Backlash from the media and medical professionals ensued after Rogan suggested on his Spotify podcast that if a 21-year-old asked him whether he or she should get vaccinated, he would recommend against it.
“If you’re, like, 21 years old and you say to me, ‘Should I get vaccinated?’ I’ll go, ‘No,’” Rogan said. “If you’re a healthy person and you’re exercising all the time and you’re young and you’re eating well, I don’t think you need to worry about this.”
“We really have a once-in-a-generation opportunity right now to seize the moment … not only create jobs but create jobs for the long haul,” says White House Communications Director Kate Bedingfield ahead of Biden’s address to Congress tonight.https://t.co/mrVyxXNd3R pic.twitter.com/vx2X8HH7gL

White House chief medical adviser Anthony Fauci responded to Rogan’s claims, saying, “That’s incorrect. You’re talking about yourself in a vacuum.”

“Even if you don’t have any symptoms, you’re propagating the outbreak because it is likely that you, even if you have no symptoms, that you may inadvertently and innocently then infect someone else who might infect someone who really could have a problem with a severe outcome,” Fauci said on NBC News.
