Four-year-old fires gun at Utah officers as they try to detain his father

Utah police officers were shot at by a 4-year-old as they tried to detain his father outside a McDonald’s restaurant on Monday.

The gun was being handled by a 4-year-old child who was allegedly told to fire the gun by his father. Police stated the child was in the backseat of the car with a 3-year-old sibling and that they were able to deflect the weapon, which discharged into a restaurant awning, according to a report.

Unified Police Department identified the father as Sadaat Johnson, 27, who allegedly drew a gun on restaurant drive-thru workers for getting his order wrong, Fox 13 reported. After telling Johnson they would fix his order, the employees contacted the police. When police arrived and removed Johnson from his vehicle, an officer noticed “a firearm coming outside the vehicle,” according to UPD Sheriff Rosie Rivera.

“This campaign against police officers, this needs to stop. We’re here to protect and serve, and this is getting out of hand,” said Rivera. “This is a child who thought it was okay to pull a firearm and shoot that firearm at police. I’ve never seen anything like this in my 28 years.”

The officer who deflected the child’s gun received a small injury to his arm, the outlet reported.
