Real Justice PAC co-founder Shaun King called for tearing down some statues of Jesus Christ to fight white supremacy.
King, a prominent Black Lives Matter activist, writer, and high-profile supporter of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders during the Democratic primary for president, said on Monday that depictions of Jesus as white were “created as tools of oppression” and called for them to be torn down.
“Yes, I think the statues of the white European they claim is Jesus should also come down. They are a form of white supremacy. Always have been. In the Bible, when the family of Jesus wanted to hide, and blend in, guess where they went? EGYPT! Not Denmark. Tear them down,” he said in a Twitter thread.
“Yes. All murals and stained glass windows of white Jesus, and his European mother, and their white friends should also come down. They are a gross form white supremacy. Created as tools of oppression. Racist propaganda. They should all come down,” he said.

In a follow-up tweet, King speculated that Jesus may not have existed as a historical figure, an assertion widely disputed by most New Testament scholars.
“We can debate rather or not Jesus was real all day long. What I do know, is that white Jesus is a lie,” he said.
We can debate rather or not Jesus was real all day long. What I do know, is that white Jesus is a lie. And is a tool of white supremacy created and advanced to help white people use the faith as a tool of oppression. Also, they never would’ve accepted a religion from a Brown man. https://t.co/EDYDrJVlfR

A day earlier, American Conservative Union Chairman Matt Schlapp predicted that statues of Jesus would be torn down amid nationwide vandalism of monuments, memorials, and statues.
“Statues of Jesus are next. It won’t end. Pray for the USA,” Schlapp tweeted.
