The Tuesday night arrest of a 27-year-old Alexandria man on a murder charge caps a tragic day during which three people died violently in Northern Virginia.

Police arrested and charged Derrick Wright late Tuesday after finding 29-year-old Alexandria resident Kareem Timmons bleeding in the lobby of Alexandria’s parole and probation office Tuesday morning. Police spokeswoman Amy Bertsch said Timmons died at the scene from a massive head injury.

Alexandria police spokesman Lt. James Bartlett said Wright and Timmons were friends. He said he could not confirm reports that Timmons was in the office for a scheduled appointment.

Meanwhile, the Virginia medical examiner ruled the death of a man who fell several stories Tuesday insidea George Mason University building a suicide.

Martin Klapproth, 26, of Fairfax County, apparently jumped from the edge of the fourth floor in the interior of the Johnson Center at around noon and fell into an open area below, according to GMU spokesman Dan Walsch.

He said the school has set up counseling services for anyone traumatized by the suicide.

“Nobody saw him go over the edge,” said Walsch. “But there were people where he landed, sitting around in chairs.”

Though he was not a student this year, Martin had been enrolled full-time during the fall semester, studying economics, Walsch said.

Finally, the body of Martha Majors, a Fairfax woman arrested Monday for the murder of her 22-year-old niece, was discovered in her cell at the Fairfax Adult Detention Center. Majors was released from Inova Fairfax Hospital Monday after recovering from self-inflicted wounds received after she stabbed her niece to death in December.

Fairfax police said no foul play was suspected in Major’s death, but have not yet ruled it a suicide.
