CNN’s Anderson Cooper apologized for calling President Trump “an obese turtle on his back, flailing in the hot sun.”
“I’m happy to say it seems like Trump is going to be, in your words, an obese turtle on his back, just flailing around, Anderson,” failed 2020 Democratic presidential primary candidate Andrew Yang told Cooper during an interview on Saturday after media outlets declared Joe Biden the victor of the 2020 presidential election.
“By the way, I should say I regret using those words because that’s not the person I really want to be,” Cooper said. “It was in the moment, and I regret it.”
The CNN anchor called Trump “an obese turtle” on Thursday after Trump addressed the nation on potential election fraud.
“That is the president of the United States. That is the most powerful person in the world, and we see him like an obese turtle on his back, flailing in the hot sun, realizing his time is over,” the news anchor said.
Trump said in the press conference that when counting legal votes, he “easily” won.
“I’d like to provide the American people with an update on our efforts to protect the integrity of our very important 2020 election. If you count the legal votes, I easily win. If you count the illegal votes, they can try to steal the election from us. If you count the votes that came in late, we’re looking to them very strongly, but a lot of votes came in late,” he said.
“It’s not a question of who wins — Republican, Democrat, Joe, myself. We can’t let that happen to our country. We can’t be disgraced by having something like this happen. So, it will be, hopefully, cleared up. Maybe soon. I hope soon, but it’ll probably go through a process, a legal process. And as you know, I’ve claimed certain states, and he’s claiming states, and we can both claim the states, but ultimately, I have a feeling judges are going to have to rule. But there’s been a lot of shenanigans, and we can’t stand for that in our country,” Trump said.
Trump is in the midst of multiple legal battles in states such as Pennsylvania, Nevada, Michigan, and Georgia.
Sen. Ted Cruz joined Fox News’s Maria Bartiromo on Sunday and said that Trump could still win the 2020 election.
“Historically, mail-in votes are much more likely to be disqualified in a recount than in-person votes. Generally, in-person votes, they’re conducted at the polling place, and they usually stand. That means what we’re likely to see in the next few weeks as the recounts go forward is that Joe Biden’s very, very narrow majorities in some of these states, those totals are likely to drop if we see mail-in votes when they’re examined being invalidated as contrary to the law,” Cruz said.
He added that he believes Trump “still has a path to victory, and that path is to count every single legal vote that was cast but also not to count any votes that were fraudulently cast or illegally cast.”
