Trump used presidential seal all over LIV golf tournament

Former President Donald Trump used the presidential seal on multiple objects at his controversial hosting of the LIV Golf tournament in his New Jersey golf resort.

Federal law prohibits the use of the seal in a manner that falsely indicates an “impression of sponsorship or approval by the Government of the United States,” but the seal was spotted on golf carts, towels, and other items in his resort Thursday, the Washington Post reported.

The former president has been caught using the presidential logo on his business properties in the past. At one point, the logo was found on his course in West Palm Beach, Florida, Forbes reported. The Trump Organization also ordered golf course tee markers with the emblem, WNYC and ProPublica reported in 2018.

Under federal law, violating the rules governing the presidential seal could result in up to six months in prison or a fine, but those punishments are rarely rolled out.

Trump has attracted criticism for hosting the LIV tournament, which received financial backing from Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund. Families of the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks have blasted LIV for its affiliation with the kingdom because of the country’s alleged ties to the attackers, and members of the group 9/11 Justice gathered several miles outside of the Trump National Golf Club Bedminster, where LIV is being held, to rally against the tournament.

Trump has brushed aside outrage over LIV’s Saudi connections, arguing that “nobody’s gotten to the bottom of 9/11.”

The FBI has released reports examining ties between Saudi Arabia and the attacks. Fifteen of the 19 hijackers were Saudi. Additionally, there have been alleged links between some Saudi officials, such as Omar al Bayoumi, believed to have been a former Saudi intelligence officer, and some of the hijackers. Saudi Arabia has denied any connection to those attacks.

The tournament at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster is slated to take place from Friday to Sunday. A second LIV tournament will be held at Trump National Doral Miami in October.
