A man was shot and wounded by D.C. police in Southeast Washington on Tuesday afternoon.
The altercation happened at about 2:30 p.m. on the 2400 block of Elvans Road SE, said Officer Paul Metcalf, a D.C. police spokesman. He said officers shot at and hit the man, who was taken to a local hospital.
The man’s injuries were serious and potentially life-threatening, according to D.C. fire and emergency services.
Metcalf said he didn’t know what sparked the incident or why police were pursuing the the man who was shot. No officers were injured, Metcalf said.
It wasn’t immediately known whether the man had a weapon or had tried to injure the officers.
