Hillary Clinton was introduced at a campaign rally in Florida Tuesday by Alicia Machado, a former Miss Universe contestant who has been held up by the Democratic nominee’s campaign as a prime example of Donald Trump’s history of treating women poorly.
“Trump was overwhelming. I was scared of him. He made fun of me and I didn’t know how to respond. He told me that I looked ugly and I was massive. He even called me names. He said to me, Miss Piggy, Miss Housekeeping, Ms. Eating Machine,'” Machado said at a rally in the Sunshine State.
“It’s clear, really clear that he does not respect women,” said added. “He just judges us on our looks. He thinks he can do whatever he wants and get away with it. Well, now I’m standing here on behalf of women and Latinos across the country.”
Machado added she would vote for Clinton in the Nov. 8 election.
The former Miss Universe contestant’s name first appeared in the 2016 election when Clinton mentioned during a presidential debate that Trump had made critical remarks in the 1990s regarding Machado’s personal appearance.
The former model confirmed the stories, which put Trump on the offense.
“Anytime you see a story about me or my campaign saying ‘sources said,’ DO NOT believe it. There are no sources, they are just made up lies!” the GOP nominee said in September in a tweet sent out at 3:20 a.m.
Next, he tweeted at 5:14 a.m., “Wow, Crooked Hillary was duped and used by my worst Miss U. Hillary floated her as an ‘angel’ without checking her past, which is terrible!”
Trump then tweeted at 5:19 a.m., “Using Alicia M in the debate as a paragon of virtue just shows that Crooked Hillary suffers from BAD JUDGEMENT! Hillary was set up by a con.”
Not long after Trump’s early morning Twitter tirade, Clinton went after him in mocking tones.
“I mean, really. Who gets up at at 3 o’clock in the morning to engage in a Twitter attack against a former Miss Universe?” the Democratic nominee asked at a campaign rally in Coral Spring, Fla. “I mean, he hurled as many insults as he could. Really, why does he do things like that?
“I mean, his latest Twitter meltdown is unhinged, even for him,” she said. “It proves yet again that he is temperamentally unfit to be president and commander in chief.”
On Tuesday, the Democratic nominee continued to hit Trump as bad for women.
“She was Miss Universe when Donald Trump owned the pageant,” Clinton said after she had been introduced by Machado. “Well he said she put on some weight and it made him angry so he called her Miss Piggy.
“He called her Miss Housekeeping because she’s a beautiful Latina. He brought a bunch of reporters to a gym to watch him order her around to exercise,” Clinton said. “Can we just stop for a minute and reflect on Donald Trump finding fault with Miss Universe?”
