Huckabee Comments on Yesterday’s Weirdness

The Des Moines Register reports:

Huckabee, campaigning in western Iowa, said he had “no regrets, no regrets whosoever” to his handling of the situation. But a few hours later, in Cedar Rapids, said he sort of regretted showing the ad to the media. “I know there’s a lot of people who are cynical that, well, we pulled a stunt yesterday,” Huckabee said in LeMars, drawing applause from supporters. “Some of you will understand, others will not, but what it came down to was if a man gains the whole world and loses his own soul, what does it profit him? Even the presidency, important that it is, isn’t worth having if you can’t do it right.”

I would posit that this strange vacillation validates what Terry Eastland wrote here earlier today – “Mitt Romney has succeeded not merely in putting Huckabee on the defensive on various issues but also in making a mess of his campaign.”
