D.C. police are investigating a triple shooting in Mount Pleasant that left one man dead and two critically wounded.

Police believe two gunmen forced their way into an apartment in the 3700 block of 16th Street NW at about 11:15 p.m. Monday and tried to tie the three men with rope before the victims were shot.

Police are investigating whether the case is connected to a similar robbery that happened in the same apartmentbuilding Friday and another at an apartment on the next block on June 20.

The gunmen may be targeting Hispanic males, police spokesman Lt. Paul Wingate said.

Police said Samuel E. Garcia-Donis, 31, was shot in the head and died inside his apartment.

Outside, police found a 34-year-old shot in the chest and a 19-year-old with a gunshot wound to the neck.

They were taken to a hospital in critical condition. Their names are being withheld because they are considered witnesses. Wingate said detectives were reviewing videotape that may identify the shooters or witnesses that can help with the case.

Monday night’s shooting death was the 85th slaying for the year, a 9 percent increase from this date last year. Police are looking for two black males in their late teens or early 20s, between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall.

One of the suspects had dreadlocks. Anyone with information may call police at 202-727-9099.
