The manager of the Newton Foodmart in D.C.’s Bookland neighborhood was shot in the chest during a suspected robbery attempt around 6:30 p.m. Saturday, according to D.C. police.
According to the Fifth District Metropolitan Police Department Listserv, two gunmen dressed in dark clothing and attempted to rob the location on the 3600 block of 12th Street. One of the suspects discharged a firearm, striking the manager in the chest.
The victim was taken to the Washington Hospital Center’s trauma unit where he was later pronounced dead. Police have not yet released his name.
