WATCH: James Carville critiques ‘really stupid’ parts of GOP and Democrats

James Carville, a Democratic strategist known for his fiery opinions, chastised both the GOP and the Democratic Party, using the words “stupid” and “idiotic” during an interview.

Democrats have a chance to win in the November 2022 election simply because the GOP-selected candidates are unlikely to do well in a general election, Carville told columnist Niall Stanage in a conversation published Wednesday by The Hill.

Carville said the Republican Party tends to have “stupid people” voting in the primaries, which can negatively affect them in the long run.

“Really stupid people demand to have really stupid leaders. That’s where the Republican Party stands now,” Carville said.

The strategist added that he does not think former President Donald Trump will be the GOP nominee for the 2024 presidential race after the recent Mar-a-Lago raid.

However, he said, the Democrats are not promoting themselves much better.

He cited a study from Pew Research Center that divided political parties into nine groups: four Republican-oriented groups, four Democratic-leaning ones, and one “true” set of independents. Of the groups, he said, the smallest and most vocal were the progressives, making up 11-12% of the Democratic Party and 6% of the overall 2020 election.

In a recent interview, Democratic strategist James Carville said he believed America’s state was “pretty worrisome.”

The far Left, he said, tends to irritate people with its activism-based policies and phrasing. That is a strategy its supporters think will work, Carville added, but has repeatedly failed over the last six years.

“These people have the ability to irritate. They have the ability to come up with really stupid things like ‘defund the police’ — three worst words in the English language, maybe,” he said.

Carville said the Democrats need to focus more on celebrating their economic achievements, such as the American Family Rescue Plan Act and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Act, and concentrate on criticizing the GOP for its stances on the 2020 election and the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

The political consultant, who Stanage acknowledged has been around a “lot of political scrapes,” said the current state of the United States is “pretty worrisome,” even without Jan. 6 and the increased threats and attacks against the FBI and other forms of law enforcement.

“There is … just rudeness in this country. I’ll be 78 in October — I’ve just never seen it. I’ve literally never experienced this just in everyday encounters with people. … I hope that, as we go forward, that we can have some kind of return to this kind of way that we did our interpersonal relationships,” Carville said.
