Senate Intelligence Committee demands Comey memos from FBI

Leaders on the Senate Intelligence Committee have asked the FBI to provide copies of any notes or memos written by former Director James Comey.

The request was issued less than one day after the New York Times reported that Comey wrote one memo that said President Trump tried to persuade him to drop the investigation into former national security adviser Mike Flynn.

That report set off a wave of complaints, mostly from Democrats, who said Trump’s effort could amount to obstruction of justice. But even many Republicans said they were worried about the incident and want to see the memos.

The committee sent a letter seeking the Comey memos to Acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe.

It also sent a separate letter to Comey himself, asking him to testify in “both open and closed sessions.”
