George Stephanopoulos lands James Comey interview ahead of book release

ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos will interview former FBI Director James Comey ahead of his book release.

“Looking forward to my exclusive interview with James Comey for the launch of his book “A Higher Loyalty” pub date April 17,” Stephanopoulos tweeted early Friday.

It’s Comey’s first major network TV interview since President Trump fired him last year. Comey tweeted after Stephanopoulos’ announcement: “Book is finished. I’m looking forward to sharing it with everyone and talking about it on ABC.”

Stephanopoulos, who hosts ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday and co-hosts “Good Morning America” on weekdays, did not indicate when he will sit down with Comey.

The book publisher, Flatiron Books, announced Feb. 7 it was moving up the book’s release date because of the “intense scrutiny” the FBI faces over its handling of the investigation into Trump’s campaign and Russia, as well as Hillary Clinton’s email probe.

The book had been scheduled to be published May 1.

Flatiron has described the book as Comey’s thoughts on “what good, ethical leadership looks like and how it drives sound decisions.”
