Trump jabs Jon Ossoff: ‘Doesn’t even live in the district’

President Trump made a last-minute plea with voters in Georgia’s 6th Congressional District Tuesday morning, asking them to vote for Republican Karen Handel because her opponent, Democrat Jon Ossoff, “doesn’t even live in the district.”

“Democrat Jon Ossoff, who wants to raise your taxes to the highest level and is weak on crime and security, doesn’t even live in district,” Trump tweeted shortly after 6 a.m. EST Tuesday. “KAREN HANDEL FOR CONGRESS. She will fight for lower taxes, great healthcare strong security-a hard worker who will never give up! VOTE TODAY.”

Ossoff doesn’t live in the district he’s running to represent, but has said he grew up there and moved to live with is girlfriend of 12 years while she attends medical school.

The race in the leaning-GOP district is critical for Democrats and Republicans because the outcome may indicate whether voters are supportive of Trump five months into his administration or are ditching the party in this special election. Tuesday’s special election results will also be seen as a sign of how House and Senate races go in November 2018.

The seat, located in the northern suburbs of Atlanta, was previously held by now-Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price.

A Real Clear Politics average of polls taken in June show Handel leads Ossoff by less than one point.
