President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden said Prince Philip’s “legacy will live on” after his death at age 99.
The royal family announced that the Duke of Edinburgh “passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle” on Friday.
“On behalf of all the people of the United States, we send our deepest condolences to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the entire Royal Family, and all the people of the United Kingdom on the death of His Royal Highness Prince Philip,” the Bidens said in a statement.
The president lauded the “decades of devotion to public service” that the Duke of Edinburgh championed during his life, including his advocacy for environmental sustainability and the “members of the Armed Forces that he supported.”
