Two Texas men were arrested for purportedly running a drug conspiracy ring on the darknet that involved the sale of fake Adderall.
Kevin Ombisi, 31, and Eric Russell Jr., 35, were arrested on Thursday and made their initial court appearance on Friday. Both Ombisi and Russell were charged with one count of conspiracy, and Ombisi was charged with an additional count of unlawful distribution of controlled substances.
The two men, both from the city of Katy, used an illegal marketplace on the darknet to peddle pills designed to look like orange 30-milligram Adderall pills, investigators alleged. During the course of the investigation, undercover Drug Enforcement Administration agents successfully purchased some of the drugs using Bitcoin, and after they were analyzed, determined that the pills were actually made of methamphetamine.
The business appeared to be lucrative for the men, according to court documents, which mentioned that one account registered to Ombisi had about 113.55 BTC from 174 transactions between October 2019 and April 2020. The value of that BTC is about $5.3 million.
In addition to arresting the men, federal agents seized more than $5 million in assets allegedly connected to the drug conspiracy.
