Eric Holder predicts Republicans will cheat in 2020 and Trump might pardon himself

Former Attorney General Eric Holder predicted the GOP would cheat its way to electoral victory in 2020.

“The reality is that Republicans are going to cheat,” Holder said Monday during an appearance with Charlamagne tha God on The Breakfast Club morning radio show. “They’re going to try to keep people away from the polls, they’re going to move polling places, they’re going to do a whole variety of things,” Holder said.

Holder had been responding to the host’s skepticism that Democrats could defeat the Republicans without an “election security bill,” which Holder mentioned is currently up for a vote in the Senate.

Holder also speculated that President Trump might refuse to leave the White House if defeated, suggesting that a defeated Trump may attempt to pardon himself if charged with a crime. “Will he pardon all the people in his administration, will he pardon himself?” Holder said. “That’s something that I wouldn’t take off the table.”

Holder’s assertion that Republicans would cheat to dissuade Democratic voters echoes accusations made by Stacey Abrams, who lost her bid for Georgia governor in 2018. Abrams, who has been an advocate for voter rights since her defeat in November, believes she was robbed of victory because her supporters were not legally able to vote.

“We have to fix those laws because as long as we have eligible American citizens who cannot cast a ballot, then the game is rigged,” Abrams said in August.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton accused Trump of cheating his way to victory in 2016, calling him an “illegitimate president” in an interview that aired Sunday. “I believe he understands that the many varying tactics they used, from voter suppression and voter purging to hacking to the false stories, he knows that there were just a bunch of different reasons why the election turned out like it did,” she said.
