Boehner goes ‘off-script’ in audio version of new book

Former House Speaker John Boehner used profanity to describe Sen. Ted Cruz in the audio version of his new book.

“Oh, and Ted Cruz, go f— yourself,” Boehner said in the audio, according to Axios.

It is unclear in what specific context Boehner was speaking about Cruz, but the audiobook, On the House: A Washington Memoir, reportedly contains several instances of unfiltered and colorful language from the Ohio Republican.

“I can confirm there were some off-script moments during his recording of the audiobook,” Boehner spokesman David Schnittger said about the comment. “He pretty much just let it fly, as he did when he was working on the book itself. He’s not really interested in being anything other than himself these days. That is kind of the spirit of the entire project.”

Cruz mentioned the comment in his speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference speech on Friday by mocking the former House speaker.

“You know, yesterday, John Boehner made some news. He suggested that I do something that is anatomically impossible. To which my response was: ‘Who’s John Boehner?’” Cruz said.

Boehner has a history of expressing animosity toward Cruz and referred to the senator in 2015 as “Lucifer in the flesh.”
