Fairfax City to offer prescription drug discount cards

Fairfax City will soon offer its residents free discount cards for prescription drugs not covered by health insurance. The card will be available to anyone, with or without an insurance plan.

The program is set to start on Nov. 15.

The city is the first in Northern Virginia to offer the program, and only the third in Virgina. Bristol and Martinsville also offer the card.

The program is provided at no cost to members of the National League of Cities, and comes with no fees or limits on how often it may be used. The card saves an average of 20 percent off the price of prescription drugs, according to the NLC.

Arlington County and Alexandria are also member of NLC, and could also sign up to provide the card to their residents.
