Ward 7 Councilwoman Yvette Alexander helped chase down — then reprimand — a thief who stole a Kindle from a man near the Wilson Building. She said she pursued him in her Range Rover on Wednesday evening and alerted security officers, who took the young man into custody. Alexander was captured on video yelling at the man: “You should be ashamed of yourself. People earn their stuff and you steal!” On Thursday, Alexander told The Washington Examiner that she hopes “to follow up with the young guy. … What led him to do that? Everyone deserves a second chance and the tools they need for that second chance,” she said. – Natalie Plumb
