Howard crash leads to arrest of alleged kidnapper

A man who allegedly kidnapped his girlfriend and her daughter was caught Monday after he caused a car crash in Howard County.

Samantha Dehaven “had been in Baltimore and was attempting to leave [Saul Williams] and go back to West Virginia. … He was following her attempting to keep her here,” Maryland State Police spokesman Gregory Shipley said.

“He forced her car off the road.”

Dehaven, 26, of Martinsburg, W.Va., called police after 9 p.m. Saturday while driving her Nissan Sentra westbound on Interstate 70 in Howard County. She said someone was trying to kill her. When troopers responded, they found her empty car overturned on the median, said police.

Williams, 26, who is from Martinsburg but has a trailer home in College Park, struck Dehaven?s car with his white Ford F-250 pickup and caused the crash while chasing her down, police said. Dehaven?s daughter, Autumn Creamer, 6, was in the truck with Williams.

Witnesses told police Williams then forced Dehaven into his truck and drove away, according to the police report.

During a stakeout, Dehaven and Creamer were found in Williams? trailer Monday morning, where they were being held against their will. Dehaven had minor injuries, but neither Dehaven nor her daughter required medical attention, police said.

Police did not find weapons in Williams? truck but did find suspected drugs that will be analyzed at the Forensic Sciences Laboratory.

Williams was charged with kidnapping, first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and destruction of property, police said. He is being held in the Howard County Detention Center on $125,000 bail.
