An Army general from Fairfax died Friday in Afghanistan, making him the highest-ranking officer to die in the decade-old central Asia theater.
The Army said that Brig. Gen. Terence Hildner, 49, died of natural causes. Hildner deployed to Afghanistan in December, the last stop in a career that included stints in the Persian Gulf, at Texas’ Fort Hood and in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. He joined the Army after graduating from the University of Notre Dame in 1984.
The military said it is investigating Hildner’s death.
