Joe Biden has a chance at unseating President Trump, Chris Christie said Thursday.
The former New Jersey governor said the former vice president is the only Democratic presidential candidate who can appeal to white, working-class voters, a group that helped propel Trump to the White House.
“His best argument is electability,” Christie told the “TBD with Tina Brown” podcast.
“Someone who could give [Trump] a run is Joe Biden,” Christie said. “I say that because in essence, [the 2016] election was decided by 80,000 voters in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin, and most of those voters were white working-class voters.”
Biden launched his 2020 presidential campaign Thursday. He is one of 20 Democratic candidates vying for the nomination.
“Welcome to the race Sleepy Joe,” Trump tweeted of Biden’s announcement. “I only hope you have the intelligence, long in doubt, to wage a successful primary campaign. It will be nasty – you will be dealing with people who truly have some very sick & demented ideas. But if you make it, I will see you at the Starting Gate!”
