Stephen King rips Trump in tweet comparing him unfavorably to George H.W. Bush: ‘Times change, eh?’

Author Stephen King swiped at President Trump in a social media post Sunday that compared the different political controversies faced by the current occupant of the Oval Office and the late former President George H.W. Bush.

“Remember when George Bush lost a presidential debate (and perhaps the presidency) by just looking at his watch?” King tweeted of the Texas Republican. “Now we’ve got a serial liar and womanizer as president, a draft dodger surrounded by a bunch of corrupt crocodiles. Times change, eh?”

King’s online message references criticism incumbent Bush received for checking the time during a 1992 presidential debate against challengers Bill Clinton, a Democrat, and Ross Perot, an independent. The gesture was perceived as an example of Bush, who was ousted from the White House that November, being out-of-touch with voters.

Fact-checkers often accuse Trump of sharing incorrect information, and the Washington Post reported in August that the president made more than 4,000 false or misleading claims during his first 18 months in office.

He has additionally been accused of having affairs with women, including porn star Stormy Daniels, while married to first lady Melania Trump, his third wife. President Trump has denied Daniels’ claims. He has also been mocked for draft deferments during the Vietnam War, four times for school and one time for bone spurs.

King is a frequent Trump and GOP critic. He was slammed in February for attributing a train crash carrying a host of Republican lawmakers to “karma.”

His post came just days after Bush, the 41st president, passed away on Nov. 30 at the age of 94. Bush will be honored during a national day of mourning on Wednesday.
