Large group of Trump supporters defy Newsom’s curfew in Huntington Beach protest

A large crowd of Trump supporters gathered on the Huntington Beach, California, pier in defiance of Gov. Gavin Newsom’s COVID-19 curfew.

“HUNTINGTON BEACH: Lots of Trump supporters gathering to protest against Gavin Newsom’s stay at home orders,” said Epoch Times reporter Jamie Joseph on Twitter, accompanied by a video of the gathering.

“Trump supporters take over Huntington Beach pier to protest Gavin Newsom’s curfew,” said Newsmax contributor James Klüg along with another video of the protest.

The protests are in response to Newsom’s order last month that 41 California counties have a curfew between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., requiring residents to stay in their homes unless they are performing essential activities.

“The virus is spreading at a pace we haven’t seen since the start of this pandemic and the next several days and weeks will be critical to stop the surge. We are sounding the alarm,” Newsom said in a statement announcing the curfew. “It is crucial that we act to decrease transmission and slow hospitalizations before the death count surges. We’ve done it before and we must do it again.”

Newsom said the curfew will remain in place until Dec. 21, reasoning that late-night “social activities and gatherings that have a higher likelihood of leading to reduced inhibition” contribute more to the spread of COVID-19.

Huntington Beach pier has become a hot spot for protests of the governor’s restrictions, having held a similar protest at 10:01 p.m. the night Newsom’s curfew went into effect.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department and other sheriff’s departments throughout the state have indicated that they do not plan to enforce the curfew order.
