Michigan running back coach Mike Hart collapses on the sidelines

The Michigan Wolverines were left shaken up and distraught Saturday when their running back coach, Mike Hart, suddenly collapsed on the sidelines.

Hart, 36, who is the college program’s all-time leading rusher, was carted off during the team’s game with the Indiana Hoosiers.

Rattled-looking players were seen getting hugged by other coaches on the sidelines, including head coach Jim Harbaugh. Players from both teams could be seen taking a knee while emergency staff tended to Hart. Running backs Blake Corum, who is being talked about as a possible Heisman Trophy candidate this year, and Donovan Edwards both appeared visibly upset, according to Michigan Live.

The game in Indiana was particularly significant for Hart as he left the Hoosiers to join Michigan in 2021. He worked as running back coach and subsequently as associate head coach from 2017 to 2020. The trip to Bloomington, Indiana, was therefore his first back to his previous employers.
