President Trump was gifted a K-pop album upon arriving Saturday at South Korea’s presidential palace.
Greeted by members of EXO, Trump remarked the boy band was “very famous” before accepting a signed copy of Love Shot on the lawn of the Blue House in Seoul.
“Where’s Ivanka?” Trump said, describing his daughter as a fan. “Ivanka was just talking about them.”
South Korean President Moon Jae-in asked Ivanka Trump if she was indeed a fan, before the nine-member band gave her and her father albums.
The K-pop genre is extremely popular in Asia and in recent years has broken into the mainstream in the U.S., although EXO is lesser-known to American fans than another group, BTS.
In a twist on the 1990s boy band craze in the United States, K-pop features stylized young men dancing in music videos, staring enticingly into cameras while performing acts of heroics and romance.
Trump also was welcomed by South Korean foreign minister Kang Kyung-wha and professional golfer Se-ri Park.
“She’s gonna be my partner,” Trump joked about the LPGA-champion golfer.
Trump arrived in South Korea ahead of a possible meeting Sunday with North Korea’s Kim Jong Un at the Demilitarized Zone.
