Islamic State claims ‘a soldier’ of the group carried out Manchester attack

The Islamic State claims a member of the terror group carried out the deadly attack in Manchester, England, according to SITE Intelligence Group.

ISIS said “a soldier of the Khilafah managed to place explosive devices in the midst of the gatherings of the Crusaders in the British city of Manchester,” according to the statement, tweeted by SITE.

Authorities in Manchester said the attacker died along with 22 victims at an Ariana Grande concert.

Another 59 were injured in the attack, according to authorities. One victim, 18-year-old Georgina Callander, was the first to be named.

Greater Manchester Police said one man conducted the attack, and he was carrying an improvised explosive device. The attacker died on the scene.

“The explosive devices were detonated in the shameless concert arena,” the ISIS statement said. “And what comes next will be more severe on the worshipers of the Cross and their allies.”

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said in a statement Tuesday that U.S. officials were working with the British government to investigate the attack.

“Our hearts go out to the families of those who have lost loved ones and to those injured in the attack in Manchester, U.K.,” Tillerson said.
