A Metro employee hit by a train in a rail yard two weeks ago was dragged 38 feet by the slow-moving train, according to a new agency report.
The mechanic, a more than 25-year veteran at the agency, was struck in a rail-car washing shop in the Shady Grove rail yard on May 29.
A diagram of the incident shows he was hit next to a door of the shop, indicating he may have just entered the building. Reports at the time indicated he had accidentally stepped into the path of the train as it entered the shop.
After being dragged 38 feet, he then was pinned under the train for about an hour while crews worked to free him.
As of last week, he remained hospitalized in critical condition, after having lost a foot in the accident among his injuries. No updates of his condition were immediately available Monday afternoon.
Updated, 5:40 p.m.: The mechanic remained hospitalized in critical but stable condition Monday evening, Metro spokesman Dan Stessel said.
