Georgia coroner finds parents and son killed at family gun range

A local coroner in Georgia found his parents and 19-year-old son shot dead after he couldn’t get in touch with them.

Coweta County Coroner Richard Hawk said he discovered the bodies last week at their family-owned shooting range, Lock Stock & Barrel Shooting Range, in Grantville following an apparent robbery that turned deadly.

“I didn’t get the call in an official capacity. I’m the one who actually found them,” Hawk told NBC News on Monday.

The triple homicide took place Friday evening. The bodies of Hawk’s parents, Thomas Hawk, 75, owner of the gun range, and Evelyn Hawk, 75, as well as his teenage son, Luke, were discovered around 8 p.m.

“It’s really hard because we don’t have stuff like this here in Grantville,” the city’s police chief, Steve Whitlock, told WSB-TV 2. “This is a nice, quiet little town.”

Around 40 guns and the range’s surveillance camera were taken from the scene, the Grantville Police Department said in a statement.
