Giants fan celebrates close shave

With football on their minds, fans descended upon Baltimore?s bar scene to watch the Super Bowl Sunday night and witness the New York Giants end the winning ways of the New England Patriots.

“I?ve been wearing the exact same clothing for every game, down to my socks,” said Mike Depew, 27, of Baltimore, a superstitious New York Giants fan who arrived early to get a good seat at Max?s on Broadway in Fells Point.

Depew joined an estimated one billion people around the world who were expected to watch Super Bowl XLII in Glendale, Az.

“I haven?t shaved since the beginning of playoffs,” he said.

Depew?s antics have humored his wife, Jaime Depew, 27, who said her husband has been getting ready for the game since October.

“But if the Giants win, he?s got to shave the beard,” she said.

Others had more riding on the game, and for Roger Greenleaf, 25, of Baltimore, it was almost a month?s rent.

“The Patriots are going to kill the Giants. They better,” said Greenleaf, who watched the game at the Green Turtle in Baltimore.

Greenleaf was so confident, he bet several hundred dollars that the undefeated New England Patriots would win, and he lost.

“Nobody should take anything for granted,” said Mike Maraziti, 46, a life-long Patriots fan, who compared his pre-game jitters to a first date.

“The Patriots have been a winning team, but you can?t assume anything. This will be a monumental day either way.”
