Judge dismisses hundreds of Md. debt-collection cases

A judge has dismissed hundreds of debt-collection cases against Marylanders who were sued by the Sunshine Financial Group.

Maryland District Court Judge Ben Clyburn dismissed the 314 cases as part of a settlement between Sunshine Financial and the Maryland State Collection Agency Licensing Board.

Sunshine Financial wasn’t properly licensed when it filed those suits.

The court will notify people whose cases have been dismissed.

Similar cases have also resulted in hundreds of dismissed debt-collection suits. In March, a judge threw out more than 10,000 cases after Midland Funding settled a class-action lawsuit.
