A popular Hong Kong actor who appeared in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, was stabbed while onstage for the opening of a new store in China.
Simon Yam, 64, was speaking to the crowd at the opening of a store in the southern province of China on Saturday when a man jumped onstage, pulled a knife from his pocket and stabbed him in the abdomen. He attempted to continue the slashing before security at the event intervened and the assailant was detained.
The violent incident was captured on video.
Yam has starred in a number of movies in addition to Tomb Raider, including The Cradle of Life, which also stars acclaimed actress Angelina Jolie. He has also appeared in Election, Election 2, and Exiled.
Yam is recovering from his injuries, which include a stab wound and slashes on his arm. The motive for the attack is still not clear.
