Burr gets major boost from outside group in N.C. Senate race

North Carolina Sen. Richard Burr received a major boost in outside support on Thursday, after the Senate Leadership Fund announced its plans to spend $8 million on television ads in the Tar Heel State starting Sept. 13.

According to Roll Call, SLF will begin airing ads next week in North Carolina that will run through Election Day. The ads are intended to help Burr secure a strong lead over Democratic Congresswoman Deborah Ross, who is challenging him for his Senate seat.

Burr is currently up just 2.6 percentage points over Ross in the RealClearPolitics state-level polling average. She trailed him by double digits earlier this year.

“By the time Election Day comes around, North Carolina voters will know more than enough about Deborah Ross’s record to make her unelectable,” Ian Prior, a spokesperson for the Senate Leadership PAC, told Roll Call.

Earlier this month, One Nation, a nonprofit group with ties to veteran GOP operative Karl Rove, spent $1.5 on an ad buy to help Burr in North Carolina’s capital city and its surrounding suburbs.
