A woman bit a large chunk of a police officer’s right ear off during an altercation at a Louisiana bar, new reports say.
The officer was attempting to break up a fight at Joni B’s Bar Friday when a female suspect, identified as Michelle Smith, 36, “began to bite the ear of one of the responding officers,” according to a statement from the police department. After biting off a large chunk of the officer’s right ear, the woman fled the scene and evaded apprehension, the statement continued.

“As officers arrived they were attempting to separate several females that were fighting in the parking lot,” the police department said in a statement. “During the struggle Michelle Smith completely bit a large portion of the right ear completely off and she fled the area before she could be apprehended.”
The officer was brought to a nearby hospital and received treatment for his injuries. The police department says he is currently recovering from his injuries.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Smith for one count of second-degree battery. This is a charge for recklessly causing harm to another person, according to Louisiana law.
The police department is encouraging anyone with information to contact them at 1-800-743-7433. Tipsters could receive up to $1,000 if the tip leads to an arrest.
