Pro-Trump Citizens United invests in modest advertising buy

Citizens United, an outside group loyal to President Trump, is investing in a modest national advertising buy touting the administration’s agenda.

The 30-second spot, promoting the growing economy and booming jobs market, is exactly the message endangered congressional Republicans were hoping to run on in the midterm elections, rather than the Russia investigation that Trump can’t seem to stop talking about. It’s just not clear that spending “nearly $1 million” will make much of a dent in the narrative given the hundreds of millions being spent by Democrats, Republicans and their legion of allied third-party groups.

The television component of the eight-day buy, running on Fox News and Fox Business and including a swipe at the mainstream media, seems designed to appeal directly to Trump, who regularly complains that he doesn’t get enough credit for his accomplishments. The digital aspect, directed at voters in targeted Senate battlegrounds, might be more effective. The spot is to run on platforms in Florida; Montana; North Dakota; West Virginia; and Tennessee.

Citizens United is run by David Bossie, who served as the deputy campaign manager for Trump during the final few months of the 2016 contest. Bossie also was responsible for inviting Trump to a series of events the Citizens United sponsored in the run-up to the last presidential election that featured the top Republican contenders.

Here is the script of the ad:

It’s a new day in America.

Everywhere you look, things are improving.

Our President promised…and he’s keeping his word.

Thanks to President Donald Trump,

More people are going to work today,

And millions of jobs have been created.

Tax relief means more money in paychecks.

Retirement funds and the stock market, unleashed and roaring back.

The mainstream media, they won’t admit it,

But the leadership of President Donald Trump is making America’s economy great again.
