Virginia State Police and Prince William County Police are starting an intiative today that aims to crack down on parking violators at the Horner Road commuter parking lot.
The Horner lot, near Interstate 95 and the Prince William County Parkway, is a popular place for commuters to park before boarding a bus or taking a slug line ride. The lot has more than 2,000 parking spaces that are usually filled by 6:50 a.m.
In the first phase of the intiative, which begins today and runs through June 29, troopers will be on the lookout for vehicles that block travel lanes or are double-parked. Police said that violators will receive warning flyers, but vehicles that pose a serious danger could be towed at the owner’s expense.
In the second phase, beginning July 2, illegally parked vehicles will be ticketed and vehicles posing a serious hazard will be towed at the owner’s expense, police said.
Authorities said that illegally parked vehicles are vehicles parked in areas marked with “no parking” signs, in landscaped areas not intended for vehicle parking, or in a travel lane that obstructs traffic.
Police engaged in a similar intiative at the parking lot in October.
