Trump honors promise to dissolve Donald J. Trump Foundation

The Trump family’s charitable foundation, the Donald J. Trump Foundation, is closing down, according to a new report.

President Trump promised last December the foundation would be shut down due to conflicts of interests and New York’s attorney general instructed the foundation cease seeking contributions last fall.

“The foundation announced its intent to dissolve and is seeking approval to distribute its remaining funds,” to charity, according to a 2016 Internal Revenue Service filing from earlier this month and uploaded to the website of charity watchdog, Guidestar.org, NBC News first reported.

Last year, the foundations had assets amounting to approximately $970,000.

The foundation confessed money from the foundation had been transferred to Trump, who was prohibited from receiving money from the foundation, tax filings from 2015 reveal.

Those who received funds from the foundation include the Red Cross, the Make-a-Wish Foundation the Salvation Army, in addition to multiple veterans’ charities.

More than $2 million was distributed to military and veterans’ organizations including Disabled American Veterans, the Green Beret Foundation, and America’s VetDogs in 2016.

“The Foundation has done enormous good works over the years in contributing millions of dollars to countless worthy groups, including supporting veterans, law enforcement officers and children,” Trump said in a statement in December. ”

However, to avoid even the appearance of any conflict with my role as President I have decided to continue to pursue my strong interest in philanthropy in other ways.”
